Birgit’s flying diary:Two nations separated by common language not always! Converting an FAA to EASA
A lot of my students ask me what the difference is between flying in the US and flying in the UK.
The flying part is not different at all, but the rules and regulations, that you follow as a pilot need quite a bit of practice to get used to.
When I came back to Europe I wasn’t sure if I wanted to start all over again. Some of the local authorities in Europe told me, that I would need to pass my PPL again and could then do the commercial license for EASA. And I thought, that can’t be right… The most difficult thing was to find the right source of information.
I was very pleased, when I finally found a school in the UK, where the Head of Training just printed out the pages of the EASA law and said, your requirement is 15h, but you will need 20h for your conversion.
What a statement! And he also mentioned, that I would struggle with the navigation and communication….
Guess what, 20hours of training later… after struggling with navigation and communication in the beginning, I passed my CPL skills test.
