Avoiding bolognese at Royal Medis! – Capt McDonell reflects on Day Two of the Tour de France

After a great first nights stay at Chateau D’Audrieu we headed for Dinard Saint Malo airfield for fuel.

Along the way we got to see the very impressive Mont Saint Michel, given the scale of this historic site it is a whole different view from the air.

After refuelling at Dinard we headed for our next fuel stop at Royal Medis airfield, this fuel stop became interesting when we discovered there was live parachute operations on the airfield. Getting into the airfield was fine but getting back out required us to wait for a gap in the parachuting activity.

The French air traffic controller was keen to ensure everything was safe explaining that he did not want us to start up until he told us on the radio to do so otherwise we would make bolognese -which took a brief moment to translate!

Having finally cleared Royan Medis we flew across and then along the Ciron River making for a very scenic journey on our way to Chateau Auberge Ostape, a very nice Chateau down near the Spanish border and a short journey inland from France’s West coast.

While the Jetranger and the G2 managed to land for the night in the paddock it was agreed we would land the R44 in the small car park beside the paddock.

Plenty of room but worth being careful noting the car parks overhead lights. Good practice when it comes to confined areas.
