Virtual Ground School – Preparing for Take Off

Thanks to everyone that joined last week for our PPL(H) Quiz Night, a slight change in format with Capt White playing Quizmaster taking questions from each of the topics across PPL syllabus then sending us off in teams for a final round of picture fun. This Tuesday 13th April normal service resumes, when we will be Preparing for Take Off back in our usual slot 18:00 – 20:00 focusing on getting back into the air after our flying hiatus.
The CAA have produced a publication last year CAP1925 – ‘COVID 19 – Preparing to Return to Normal Flying Operations for General Aviation Private Pilots’ In essence, it’s about making sure you haven’t forgotten how to prepare for flight as well as the actual flying. a copy of which is in our shared Dropbox/COVID-19 and the CAA information folder which you may want to take a look at if you haven’t done so already.
As we return to training now is the perfect time to refresh your memory. So… on Tuesday we will be covering all there is to know in order to properly prepare for flights; a good MATED brief having checked the relevant weather (which has been superb for flying to date, lets pray it continues!), NOTAM’s, chart amendments, any frequency changes, procedural changes that Elstree have temporarily put in place such as booking out and PPR, aircraft checks and of course, emergency procedures. It’s also well worth brushing up on your RT.
It might sound like a lot of information to take on board but a couple of hours brushing up at evening online ground school should help blow away any cobwebs. The remaining threads can hopefully be blown away with actual downwash soon 😊
As usual we will meet in our Virtual Crew Room via ‘ZOOM’ (please let us know if you need any help with this). RSVP and you will receive an invitation link from Capt. White and as always bring your own snacks and a thirst for knowledge.
First time? Whether you are currently training, a qualified pilot or perhaps you just share our love of helicopters you can escape into our virtual crew room and enjoy a couple of hours of pilot chat!
