Sounding competent when using the radio is an essential part of flying. Often students can be nervous when making a call to ATC (Air Traffic Control) but with training and plenty of practice you’ll be reciting your callsign in your in your sleep… GOLF-CHARLIE-GOLF-GOLF-GOLF! Our hot topics this week will be distress calls, diversions practising PAN-PAN calls, position reports and LARS (lower airspace radar services).

Whether you are currently learning to fly, studying for your RT exam or just want to brush up your radio skills, this is another ‘not to be missed’ Ground School as we have invited not one but two RT experts to join us in our virtual crew room. Some of you will recognise their voices from the radio or remember from previous sessions… Capt Helena Hughes an RT Oral Examiner, Air Traffic Controller, holds a CPL (A) , a PPL (H) and was also one of Capt. White’s students! AND friend of the flying school Amanda Rhodes who is Radar Controller for Essex and Luton Approach.

SO if you need HOTEL-ECHO-LIMA-PAPA with your ROMEO-TANGO This will be a fantastic opportunity to ask any questions you may have about using the radio, protocols, test out your RT skills and get a masterclass in zone transits without having to fly at the same time!
